Making a difference

Problem:

Fast growing nonprofit charity that funds and manages programming for under-served elementary schools needs, as part of a strategic plan, to assess how program impact can better be measured and understood “on the ground”

Task:

  • 16 visits to 8 schools in NYC to observe how program partners deliver program in classrooms, followed by an interview with each Principal
  • Follow up notes and conversations document strengths, weaknesses, review each school ’s needs and the role teachers play with external programs partners
  • Link observations to re-design of current metrics

Results:

  • direct impact on strategic planning theory of change
  • productive conversations with program directors
  • revision of surveys and other metrics to better assess correlative value of programs
  • re-invigoration of Board’s Education Committee
